Interpretation for a garden
CLIENT: ROCHESTER CATHEDRAL
ABOUT
The Cathedral Gardens Project is specially designed to enhance and improve the gardens and green spaces of the Cathedral Estate to deliver the overall mission of the Cathedral.
PROJECT
As part of the Rochester Cathedral Garden Project, we developed a series of interpretation panels designed to enhance visitors’ understanding of the site’s rich monastic heritage. Each panel was carefully designed to reflect the historical significance and unique character of the different garden areas.
THE MONASTIC INFIRMARY GARDEN INTERPRETATION
Our interpretation panel for the Infirmary Garden explores this fascinating aspect of monastic life, highlighting the role of herbal medicine and the daily practices of care within the medieval community. The design combines historical context, plant photography, and accessible interpretation to help visitors connect the garden’s current layout with its historic roots as a place of healing and contemplation.

INTERPRETATION PANEL FOR THE OLD DEANERY, ROCHESTER
Dean Reynolds Hole: King of the Roses
Our interpretation panels for Dean Reynolds Hole: King of the Roses celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Samuel Reynolds Hole — clergyman, gardener, writer, and passionate advocate of the rose.

CATHEDRAL ORCHARD WILDLIFE POND INTERPRETATION
In 2022, we designed an interpretation panel for the newly established Orchard Wildlife Pond at Rochester Cathedral. The panel was created to help visitors understand the vital role this small but thriving pond plays in the life of the Cathedral gardens.
